Beers to the Hoist
Announcing the launch of our first co-brewed Kingdom & Sparrow beer. Introducing ‘Hoist’, a peachy easy-drinking pale ale, brewed together with our friends at Double-Barrelled Brewery, to celebrate our 200th beer label design. Our first foray into the brewing process, and probably not our last!
Naming
Double-Barrelled gave us free rein and it didn’t take long to settle on the name “Hoist”, which is inspired by our local hardware store and home to Falmouth’s one and only carpet hoist.
A health and safety nightmare and a true example of Cornishness, the carpet hoist is a spectacle to behold, and in our opinion, the first thing anybody should aim to see when visiting K&S’ beautiful home town. Yes, we have the Old Art School, the plan chest, and other things unique to K&S, but really, our (Johnny’s) relationship with our neighbours is what’s truly special.
Design
For the label artwork, we gave rolled carpets, industrial signage and hoisting hardware the saturated Double-Barrelled treatment, in the ‘EU blue and yellow’ colour scheme. In the words of Double-Barrelled it all “feels fabulously Falmouth!”
Can designs are complemented by poster artworks by our amazing design team…
- Liam – hand painted upholstery evokes a truly ‘carpet-y’ feeling, digitised and complemented with a border containing all of your favourite tannoy catch-phrases
- Ellie – using collage, Ellie’s artwork shows that your tastebuds will be drenched by the beer
- Johnny – going bold, or going home (to the carpet department, where we suspect he lives), this artwork places emphasis on the tannoy, loud and clear
- Jake – this poster explores the use of AI to lean into the chaos of the carpet department, and gives the viewer a sense of… underlay?
- Chris – in true West End styling, this poster lands a sense of drama, and showcases Chris’ talent in the world of theatre.
