Kingdom & SPARROW Wins a silver Pentaward for drinks branding and packaging

It’s been a long three months keeping this under our hats, but the secret is finally out! Our Hive Mind project has been awarded silver in the 2024 Pentawards. In the growing No and Low-Alcohol category, Hive Mind stood out for its vibrancy and artwork-forward approach, demonstrating the K&S team’s ability to position a brand with flavour appeal as a priority.

 

After the initial nomination process, the project was shortlisted and judges were supplied with the full range of cans and outer packaging in order to make judgements on the physical execution of the brand. It’s likely that you know us as a branding agency, but packaging is also a huge part of what we do, with all of our food and drink brands resulting in physical rollout. The Hive Mind canned mead range features labelled 330ml cans, designed with differing versions for both full-print and labelling. The labelled cans are in circulation at present, finished with a rough touch varnish on the hexagon assets to give a high-quality, natural feel in the hand, reminding the consumer of the premium quality of the liquid and echoing the physical texture of the lino-print.

We are, as always, obsessed with artistry and craft, and printed each hexagon asset individually using our vintage print press in our Falmouth studio. Each flavour features its own unique set of hexagons, linocut by hand by our in-house design team, and coloured digitally to emphasise the ingredients and give a truly juicy impression. Showcasing bold, botanical illustrations, energetic patterns, and custom lettering, the brand now has an extensive range of assets to use on and off-pack.

 

The design leans into the hexagon asset further with a unique die cut at the rear, elevating the label shape and showing attention to detail and brand every step of the way. We worked closely with the brand’s label suppliers, liaising every step of the way to perfect the execution and create the perfect gap between the ends of the label so that the design was effectively seamless.
